'Grinding and fighting.' Jericho HS quarterback celebrates being cancer free after battle with lymphoma

Brandt Morgan is cancer free after a 2 ½ year battle with lymphoma.
The Jericho High School quarterback rang the bell at Cohen's Childrens Medical Center in New Hyde Park - signaling his remission.
"It's 2 ½ years of grinding and fighting and doing everything in my power just to be able to ring that bell," Morgan said.
He was met by friends from school, family, teammates and coaches as he walked out of the hospital.
Throughout his battle, he turned his hospital room into a gym and made it his goal to get back on the football field, which he did for his senior season.
That determination is what made the coaches believe that Morgan would survive.
"Every kid that walks through the Jericho football program will know about Brandt Morgan and what he's done," said Jericho High School assistant football coach Greg Berry. "This way if you're not feeling 100%, know that there was a kid out here going through chemo and spinal taps and worked his way to get on the field and compete against the best teams in Nassau County."
Morgan says he'll come back for routine checkups but says he never plans on going back up to the fourth floor.
"That's the cancer floor - I plan on never going back to that floor again," Morgan says. "Brandt Morgan has exited the building. End of a chapter."
A few hours after leaving the hospital, the Long Island Leukemia and Lymphoma Society honored Morgan as its "Hero of the Year."
The banquet took place in Melville.
