On this Road Trip: Close to Home, we are going to relax and recharge by spending time in the great outdoors in a place filled with history - Bayard Cutting Arboretum in Great River.
The Cutting family lived in the manor house that built in 1886.
Bayard Cutting Arboretum State Park spans 691 acres right along the Connetquot River.
They consider themselves a museum of trees and a place to sit back and enjoy the peace and quiet. They offer guided tours, a cafe and high tea.
Exploring the grounds is the big draw here. Some of the trees are so old and large that you can literally walk through them.
There are many different trees and plants to discover. They plant hundreds every year.
The Bayard Cutting farm is celebrating its 10th year. They have the only community garden in the New York State Park system. The space is home to 150 laying hens, and they sell their organic eggs year round.
