Long Island is seeing a decline in positive COVID-19 cases, but new cases are surging in places like Michigan, where state leaders are begging for more vaccines.
Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Director Elizabeth Hertel have made continuous pleas, but the White House is staying the course on its distribution plan.
Despite that, some national health experts are rallying behind the struggling state.
"We've got to be able to do this when there are surges to try to help states out," says r. Ashish Jha, dean of the Brown University School of Public Health.

Whitmer is urging high schools to go remote, youth sports to pause and people to skip indoor dining for at least the next two weeks.
A White House official says President Biden did tell Whitmer that the administration would send additional government personnel to help out with the vaccination process.
"We have to make sure that we're doing this in an equitable way, in a fair way and the way that we have been doing this is by adult population," says White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. "We have to continue to push forward, making sure that were getting as many people as possible vaccinated."
